The Louvre

Wednesday, 1st August '12
We finally managed to wake up in time and made it for the morning opening of the Louvre, but it was still line o'clock. We could see out the window at about 9:30am that the line had subdued somewhat, so maybe we could've been a little bit later and it would have been better.
Once again, had to wait in the line to buy a ticket only for Sarah. We started on the top level and sort of worked our way down. It was almost empty top level, which happened to have a whole heap of paintings that we actually enjoyed. We tended to yawn and run through the gothic, early-renaissance works. I don't ever want to see another Madonna and Child painting again in my life. All the religious paintings to me are so boring. Only ones I like are the super violent ones that depicted all the horrific things from the bible haha, but they're mostly just Mary and etc crying over Jesus' body blah blah. zzzZZZZ But yeah, we then moved one level down where it was just manic. This was where all the Italian renaissance was, and the Mona Lisa etc, it was just mental. I found most of those, as expected, so boring. But I did find some amazing works that I have always, always loved. The main highlights were seeing Lady Liberty Leading the People and The Raft of the Medusa. Just amazing. As you can expect, I took a million photos, so I've tried to cull a few... but there's still a lot.
By the third floor Sarah and I were yawning and a little bored. The Louvre, although having some amazing pieces, I think it's just way too big. I also found that there wasn't really enough variety, I just tend to glaze over if I see too much of the same thing... because it doesn't become special anymore. I can't really explain it. By the end we were just skipping large chunks of the museum because we were exhausted. I don't know what it is about museums, but I find them so exhausting. It makes no sense, how can just looking at stuff become so tiring? But there you are.

And, on to the images.

They painted about 1/10th of my ships :D GET IT HAR HARR

 uh... what.

These snow ones were actually quite striking in comparison to the other works. Cause they were so white... compared to teh other quite shadow-y and dark renaissance images.

There are so many amazing works in the Louvre, I don't understand why the Mona Lisa is like SO much more revered than the others? It completely baffles me.

Only one of my favourite Turner images OF ALL TIME.

An actual mummy, this was quite cool.
