1st & 2nd May

Tuesday, 1st May '12
1st of May is a big holiday here in Berlin, and a lot of people spend the day partying. I was exhausted from the weekend and university on Monday, but Tuesday I decided to embrace the day and go out. In the morning I took my dad to Hauptbahnhof, and had to say farewell to him. Saying good-bye sucks so much. Having him here was a love-hate thing, cause he buys me things and gives me hugs and forces me to leave the house, but on the other hand, he makes me leave the house (haha), snores all night, and we live in each other's pockets so I get no time just to myself. A hermit needs that time off. But anyway, I already miss him. Ugh.

Anyway, at about 1pm I met with Sowon and Nicole at Tempelhof station. We had some lunch at an italian restaurant near by, I got a spinach pizza. Alas it was the spinach that's blended that you freeze, and for some reason the pizza had a fishy taste... So I can't say I really enjoyed it.

Afterwards we headed into the huge and hugely crowded Tempelhof Flughafen (airport), and it was just huge. Grass for miles and miles around, there were so many people and yet still so much space! So we found a spot to sit and lay down on the blanket for a while. It was hot as shit on Tuesday, and there was not a single tree or form of shade anywhere, so I was just lying there, crying, thinking of the exact shade of crimson my skin would be the next day.

We left maybe 40 minutes after arriving, as Nicole had an appointment to see a flatshare. So we decided to meet again at my place once she was done and then decide what to do from there. Nicole comes to my place, I think at around 4:30-5. Emma let me know that she's headed to Tempelhof with her flat mates, so we leave once more for Tempelhof... only to arrive and find out that it's impossible to call or message people there. The weather had started to turn for the worse, it was cloudy and a lot of people were leaving. Again, didn't stay long, we left again to my place, where we met Nicole's danish friend Marie. We hung out at my place for a while, and had dinner at the steak/pizza/misc restauraunt next door. The theme somehow came to  politics, and from there I just lost control. I ranted for so long about shit australian politics, religion and censorship. It was so cathartic... and strangely energising. I feel so bad though that Nicole etc got caught up in my tirade. My bad.

We left soon after that to meet Daniel at 12:15 so we could go to Kater Holzig. We spent the whole night there dancing and taking shots of vodka. The place was incredible, huge, and it was basically a re-invented, grungy, derelict old factory that stands beside the river by JanowitzbrĂĽcke. We stayed there till the sun rose, we sat around a fire at that time and the ash burned our eyeballs and nostrils. It was...memorable. Then we left to collapse into bed at about 6am.

Wednesday, 2nd May '12
After a rather pathetic four hours sleep, I crawled my way out of bed so I could go to class. It was a rather horrid affair and I made the huge mistake of deciding I would take my bike to uni and see what the ride was like. It started off so well. There were elevators at every station I go to, so I could easily move my bike around platforms etc. Generally I had to stand with bike, but it's not the end of the world. I get on my bike at Potsdam, it's quite hot, but the ride itself is quite pleasant. The saddle on my bike is solid as a rock, and in between my legs are still tender from the bike ride on Sunday. But anyway, that's beside the point. So I'm cycling away, when I come across this weird little monument on the path, where the bottom of it juts onto the path like a step, about half a metre high. Anyway, needless to say, I misjudge the dodge as I'm concentrating on not running into other cyclists and my foot/pedal clips the corner and I am lunged forward onto the crossbar of my bike. I panic, I've definitely fucked up my expensive bike and I've only had it four days.

And then I notice my shoe, and the blood.

I think it looks much worse than it is, there was a lot of blood, but the shoe took most of the force, and the cut is quite shallow, my nail is completely in tact. It's tender, so walking was difficult, but riding the bike is actually easier since I don't put any pressure on the front part of my foot. I still rode to class, read Dance with Dragons during my lecture, did not even listen, then rode back home.

What did surprise me though, was when I arrived home and went to pee. It stung soooo bad. Turns out I did a bit of damage to my lady parts when I was flung forward onto the cross bar. Probably TMI, but deal with it. It hurts and I'm allowed to whinge about the pain. :(

These are pictures from the day after. It looked mostly ok, still very tender. It's hard to tell from the picture, but the top segment was very bruised and had swollen to about 1 and a half times its normal size. It'll be tender, and I wont be able to put pressure on it for a couple days, but I think I'll be fine by next week.
