Schloß Sanssouci

25th March 2012

A little over a week over ago I ventured out of my wee apartment in Potsdam to visit the palace. It was built by Frederick the Great, the king of Prussia, in the mid 1700s. It was basically designed as a holiday home, a place where he could go to escape the busy duties he had in Berlin. The palace itself is quite small, built in the french Rococo style, but the gardens are huge and there are a great many smaller garden houses etc scattered around the park.

It is called Sanssouci, because in french sans (without) souci (worry), so it's a place to be carefree.
