Rome (ish) with 'Rents [Part 2]

Thursday, 20th September '12
The title is actually mostly lies, as this post will mainly include pictures of the day trip my parents and I took to Florence.
We got up quite early to catch a fast train to Florence. We had an appointment at one for the Accademia Gallery, and as far as I remember, that was the first thing we did. I finally got to see the statue of David in person. It was beautiful. I've seen the image so many times, I even saw a life-size replica in front of the Vecchio palace, but I was just so struck with how big it was. I think putting it in the context of an art gallery really makes a huge difference. It's given a lot of reverence in the gallery and has it's own dome-shaped room with great lighting. Everything about seeing the statue in person was an almost religious experience. The detail on the veins on the hands and everything was just insane.

Afterwards we went to the main square for lunch, where the food was expensive and fancy, but also delicious.

From there we stopped off at palace Vecchio so we could get snaps of the David replica, and then we made the mighty climb up to the looking point at Piazzale Michelangelo. There were a rather large amount of stairs to get there, but we were granted a view of the entire city of Florence - definitely worth it.

Afterwards we made our way back to Rome.

Friday was the sad day of saying good-bye. :( We woke up early in the morning for a walk to the trevi fountain and we walked past a few nice little columns, the pantheon etc. It was really nice.

Saying goodbye was hard, but we just hugged it out and pulled the band-aid off as quick as possible. I stayed in the apartment for a few hours after my parents left until I needed to leave for my train to Venice.
