TLO is all over my camera seriously. Just everywhere.
I tried to stay behind the camera as much as possible, but sometimes it caught me and I was even in the impressions video. I'm still a bit apprehensive, since I'm right in the middle of the video... making me the god-damn preview ~____________~. But I guess, later I'll be able to look at it with a little less terror and be like, hey, look at me at this cool event. I'm so awesome.
I'm in the Day III video as well, but I think one video is enough for now right?!
And... some more pictures! Since I know that's all anybody cares about anyway. I actually have a lot more pictures... but I think I somehow fucked up majorly and they are now missing in some kind of digital vortex somewhere... I must have deleted them, I don't know... but they're gone from my SD card. So I don't know. Luckily the majority of the pictures I had already saved to my laptop... *phew*

The long(er) version
After a rather troublesome and anxiety-filled trip to Krefeld, I finally made it to HomeStory Cup late in the afternoon on Wednesday. My trip there was a bit intense... I'd organised through mitfahr to hitch a ride with somebody to Krefeld HBF... I arrive at the allotted time at Zoologischer Garten and... surprise, surprise, this douche bag decides not to show up! I stand and wait... and wait... and eventually this foreign guy comes up to me, asks "Mitfahrgelegenheit? Druisburg?". I tell him no, Krefeld and then he comes up to me with his phone and some guy on the phone is like "It's okay, he will take you to Krefeld, no problem! Your driver called me already, he has car troubles!" I'm super hesitant at first, but I meet a few other people who are going to the same place and so we all collectively decide to trust this strange person. Turns out it wasn't a big deal... until we get to Düsseldorf... where the driver suddenly decides we have to get out there, because he can't be bothered to drive the whole way. GREAT. THANKS. So we have to figure out trains and shit. Luckily the one guy in the car was very nice and we both made it to our hotel (the same hotel... apparently the only hotel in Krefeld haha) and part ways.
Anyway HomeStory Cup was an altogether unique and amazing experience, which I am so very grateful to have been a part of. The first few days were a little strange and uncomfortable for me, trying to feel my way around this intimate space with all these people who were there with a purpose and already knew each other. Although I'm extremely lucky to have made it in, the fact that my only credential was that I'm a girl just makes me uncomfortable and feel a bit...demoralised? I don't know, I just felt so ridiculously out of place as every single time a person asked me "Why are you here?", I didn't really have any kind of acceptable answer... since the people that were there, were either players, managers, staff or sponsors. I felt a bit lame and stupid to admit I was just a fan...
Either way, I was made to feel very welcome. Many a game of looping louie was played, ham and cheese sandwiches eaten, games of foosball lost... I met many amazing people there, all who made me feel included and welcome. Jos (liquidRet) is obviously one of them, considering he invited me! Dario (liquidTLO) was also super kind and kept me company whenever I was wandering around like a lost puppy... Reis, Ewa and Kaelaris deserve special mention as well for having my back and keeping me company loads over the event. I'm super grateful for your company and to have gotten to know you guys, Thank you! I doubt they'll ever read this, but you know. My gratitude is out there in the universe now. :)
It was really awesome to meet some of my favourite players, MMA and MarineKing being two of them. Naturally I didn't have any courage to speak to either. A friend finally got sick of me whining about wanting a picture with MMA and asked for me... It was glorious. Reis also was the middle guy for my picture with MKP. AWWW YEAHHHHHHH.
Not really sure what else to say. It's a very relaxed atmosphere, people come and go as they please, there's always plenty to drink and eat, and people are just around laughing and relaxing and just doing what they can to have a good time. It was so nice to see how full the pub downstairs got during the event, and it was a little strange to me that I was walking into the apartment with these players, whose fanboys were camped outside the door waiting for photos and autographs. It was very surreal, just the entire thing is surreal. There's really no other way to describe it.
I'm really sad that I won't be able to attend any other HomeStory Cups or even Dreamhacks! Being able to go to these tournaments has been such a cool experience, and I'm a little sad that I'm going back to the middle of nowhere and I won't really have these opportunities again. I guess I'll just have to power through with nostalgia!
